Grounds - a link between the context in which a word is normally used and the new context in which it is applied.
An extended metaphor is one that establishes a principal subject with several subsidiary subjects or comparisons.
A mixed metaphor attempts to create an extended comparison but fails because it is not consistent with itself.
A paradox - is a statement or expression so surprisingly self-contradictory as to provoke us into seeking another sense or context in which it would be true.
An oxymoron is a figure of speech which combines two usually contradictory terms. It can be regarded as a compressed paradox.
A hyperbole is a figure of speech in which statements are exaggerated for the sake of emphasis.
