Teenage lifestyles in Great Britain
Teddy Boys (in the 1950s) - had long hair and wore fancy waistcoats, long loose jackets, narrow trousers and thick soft shoes. They were known for street brawls and anti-authority feelings.
Mods (1960s) - followed a fashion for neat clothes, such as Italian suits and smart shoes. They listened to soul music, drove motor scooters and often had fights with Rockers.
Rockers (also 1960s) - wore leather jackets, rode motorcycles and listened to rock'n'roll.
Hippies (1960s and 1970s) - were concerned with pacifism, nature, eastern religions, love and drugs. They wore exotic kaftans, cowbells and beads bought in Carnaby Street in London.
Punks (1970s and 1980s) - were opposed to the values of money-based society and expressed this in loud, violent music, strange clothing and hair of unusual colours.
