Definitions
Fixed form poetry - may be categorized by the pattern of its metre, lines or stanzas.
Metre - is the pattern of measured sound-units recurring more or less regularly in lines of verse.
In quantitative metre the pattern is a sequence of long and short syllables counted in groups known as feet.
In syllabic metre, the pattern comprises a fixed number of syllables in the line.
In accentual metre the pattern is a regular number of stressed syllables in the line or group of lines, regardless of the number of unstressed syllables.
