advertise - verb [I, T] to put information in a newspaper, on television, on a picture on the wall, etc. in order to persuade people to buy sth, to interest them in a new job, etc.: e.g. a poster advertising a new car • The job was advertised in the local newspapers. •  It's very expensive to advertise on television .
