Co ordinate system It is worth studying this diagram as it represents particular choices among many which
are possible and the details of the equations to be developed depend upon these choices.
We have followed in this diagram the majority but by no means universal tradition followed
by writers of text books.
It may be noted in the diagram that the source is placed at the left of the load and
that the z axis is directed from the source to the load. In respect of both these matters
some text book writers make different choices, with the result that if the differences are
not noted the fact that the resulting equations do not match those developed here will
appear to be mysterious.
