Geography of the British Isles
The British Isles are surrounded by the North Sea to the north and east, and by the Atlantic Ocean in the south and west. Between England and France there is the English Channel. Between Great Britain and Ireland there is the Irish Sea.
The main mountain regions in Great Britain:
The Cornish Heights (south-west England)
The Cambrians (Wales)
The Cumbrian Mountains (in the Lake District)
The Pennines (known as the backbone of England)
The Highlands of Scotland are the highest mountains in Britain.

Ben Nevis in Scotland
Snowdon - the highest mountain in Wales and in the UK south of the Scottish border

The Severn (220 miles)
The Thames (215 miles)
Lake areas:
In Cumbria and in the Highlands of Scotland
The largest lake in the UK is Lough Neagh in Northern Ireland.
